The FAIR WEATHER ART CATALOGUE is the initiative of the Bikolnon visual arts community for the benefit of visual artists who were severely affected by Typhoon Kristine. We feature herein their appeal for support and assistance. This is Volume 2 of their two-part catalogue curated by Dennis B. Gonzaga.
Almost a month after Typhoon Kristine brought torrential rains and flooding, the Bikol Region is still recovering. Damage to infrastructure, to local commerce, and personal property will take months to undo.
It is in times like these that people and communities find the heart and the will to look out for each other. Various volunteer groups, privately organized or state-funded, have set up relief operations to address the immediate need of impacted communities for basic necessities. Other collectives have also started to address other aspects of post-disaster rehabilitation, particularly in the areas of mental health and health and wellness.
The visual arts community have also banded together, with the Fair Weather Art Catalogue being a means for marginalized artists to regain their livelihood. Despite the impact of the recent calamity, there is a vitality and a potent sense of beauty and value in their featured works–most of which were barely spared from the onslaught of the floodwaters.
Volume 2 of the Fair Weather Art Catalogue continues this initiative to help the Bikolnon visual arts community regain its foothold and its creative spirit. There is always a fitting art piece fit for every art patron and collector.
