SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

DATELINE IBALON is an online magazine that features blog articles, personal stories, historical works, book reviews, social enterprises, culture, art, music, technology, tourism, and current events. We offer a fresh perspective on many topical events or issues that we experience as Bicolanos and Filipinos.

We offer a venue for Bicolanos to submit articles and other written works in Pilipino, Bicol or English that educate and give more depth and  meaning to certain events and issues. In exceptional cases, we will accept significantly relevant articles from non-Bicolanos since we believe in and honor inclusivity.

Our success will depend  largely on the quality and relevance of its content. We will, therefore, endeavor to publish carefully curated content forms that we hope will appeal to our readers, Bicolanos and non-Bicolanos alike, within the whole demographic spectrum. We invite all Bicolanos to share their talents and expertise on any subject or topic by submitting contributions in various media forms such as written material, video blogs, podcasts, music, images/photos, and weblinks.

Help us build content

DATELINE IBALON welcomes content submissions and contributions from our readers on wide ranging topics about Bicol and Bicolanos, such as articles, literary work, research papers, photographs/paintings/illustrations, videos, music, and web links. Content can be in Pilipino, Bicol or English.

Articles and research papers

  1. DATELINE IBALON (hereinafter referred to as DLI) accepts written articles, original or previously published, in print or web link form. The author must provide DLI permission to publish or re-publish, subject to Creative Commons terms and conditions. 
  2. The submitted material may be an essay, literary work, or research paper – in Pilipino, Bicol or English. The research paper must have been peer-reviewed, published under a reputable academic or research institution and shall be subject to verification.
  3. The author’s credentials shall be subject to verification. Each submission must include the author’s brief bio note.
  4. Formats shall be Word or Google Docs, size 11 font, 1500-2000 words. The research paper must be in pdf file and must be accompanied with a written summary of no more than 500 words. 
  5. The author is solely responsible and accountable for the content and accuracy of his/her article.
  6. Submissions are accepted anytime; DLI reserves the right to schedule publication.
  7. The author shall not be compensated for his/her article but agrees to be included in a list of DLI guest contributors.
  8. DLI reserves the right to approve or reject article submissions subject to fair standards of journalism. Notifications of rejection or removal of articles will not offer an explanation.

Photographs, paintings and illustrations

  1. DLI accepts photographs, paintings, illustrations and historical maps. The creator or artist must provide DLI permission to publish or re-publish.
  2. The photographs, paintings and illustrations must be artistic and educational or have historical significance. We prefer hi-resolution submissions using jpeg, png or tiff formats. Please contact us if the file sizes are too large to transmit by email.
  3. DLI reserves the right to approve or reject submissions subject to fair standards of art appreciation. Notifications of rejection or removal of videos will not offer an explanation

Videos and music

  1. DLI accepts video and music submissions in the form of a movie file or a web link to reputable and secure social media channels. The video or music must be of high-quality and format, original or previously published. The creator must provide DLI permission to publish or re-publish.
  2. The video or music must be rated PG, educational and wholesome, family oriented and make use of appropriate themes and language. Inappropriate, discriminatory, non-factual, abusive, or divisive submissions will be rejected. Endorsement of products and services shall not be accepted.
  3. DLI reserves the right to approve or reject video/music submissions subject to fair video journalism and recorded music standards. Notifications of rejection or removal of videos will not offer an explanation

Book and film reviews

  1. Verifiable credentials of the book author, film maker and reviewer shall be required.
  2. The book or film content must be informative, educational, and inspirational.
  3. The book or film reviewer shall not be compensated for his/her book or film review but agrees to be included with a list of DLI guest contributors. DLI shall not receive compensation for the book or film review.
  4. DLI reserves the right to approve or reject book or film review submissions subject to fair standards of journalism. Notifications of rejection will not offer an explanation.
