Sorsogon City, Philippines – Sorsogon City is gearing up for a remarkable photographic event set to take place on October 7, 2023. The city will be a focal point of creative energy as it joins the worldwide community of Photowalkers for the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk. Organized by the distinguished Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, in collaboration with the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) Bicol Chapter and the Sorsogon Arts Council, this event promises to be a unique opportunity to capture the essence of Sorsogon and address pressing social, environmental, and human rights issues.

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk is an annual global phenomenon that unites photography enthusiasts from various corners of the world. On this day, photographers from all walks of life gather in their respective cities to explore, capture, and share the unique stories and perspectives of their communities through the art of photography.
Allan Abrigo, co-founder of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective and one of the walk leaders, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “Sorsogon City has a wealth of stories to tell, and we believe that photography is a powerful tool for storytelling. This year, our focus is on Capturing Realities: Unveiling Sorsogon through the Lens. We aim to shine a light on social issues, environmental concerns, and human rights advocacies that matter deeply to our community.”
Joseph Bausa, regional coordinator of CAP Bicol, emphasized the role of art in advocacy, saying, “Art has the power to inspire change. Through this Photowalk, we hope to create awareness and advocate for the pressing issues that affect not only Sorsogon but also the world. It’s an opportunity for artists and activists to come together and make a difference through their art.”
Geri Matthew “Choi” Carretero, the Art Director of Kurit-Lagting, underscored the event’s theme, adding, “Capturing Realities: Unveiling Sorsogon through the Lens is more than just a tagline. It’s a call to action. We believe that every photograph taken during this event has the potential to tell a story, start a conversation, and inspire change.”
Venus Ashtred Briñola, a member of Kurit-Lagting and one of the walk facilitators, encouraged participation from all corners of the community, saying, “This Photowalk is inclusive. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or simply passionate about your city, we invite you to join us. Together, we can create a visual narrative that raises awareness and advocates for a better Sorsogon.”

Participants in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Sorsogon City will gather at a designated location before embarking on their photographic journey. With their cameras poised to capture the city’s essence, the event promises to be a melting pot of creativity, activism, and storytelling. Sorsogon City will stand shoulder to shoulder with Photowalkers around the world, capturing realities, and unveiling the heart and soul of the city through their lenses. It’s more than just photography; it’s a movement for change and a celebration of the power of art to address critical issues that affect us all.
It should also be noted that last year, the said group conducted the worldwide photowalk in the municipality of Gubat, Sorsogon, specifically at Calayucay Beach, Sitio Gumang, in Barangay Cota na Daco, as a show of support for the Save Gubat Bay Movement (SGBM). The SGBM is composed of fishermen and local residents in Gubat, where they advocate for the right to live peacefully and simultaneously call for the cessation of impending coastal road and reclamation projects in their area, as well as policies that may affect their livelihood sources.
