She has the credentials and achievements to qualify for a significant role in the academe, She is an innovative teacher, a persuasive instructor, an articulate communicator, and adept in her use of various pedagogical tools.

Her credentials include the following: A bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, graduating cum laude; voted outstanding student in the Bicol region; sole Bikolana finalist in the 1996 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines; licensed Professional Teacher; author of science books; a doctorate degree in education majoring in biology.
Additionally, she is a theater and indie film actor; former TV host; YouTube content creator; competitive cosplayer; founder of Fire and Ice Dance Group; head of the Ateneo de Naga Creative Endeavors Council for Dance.
She pushes the envelope to fulfill her role as an educator. She thinks and steps outside the box to be a more effective knowledge resource for her students. She dares to be different in her persona to bridge the generational gap between her and her young audience.
Tess Consulta-Francisco refuses to let traditional standards of professorship define her. In fact, her friends and peers call her the “Unbothered Queen.” A few colleagues find her flamboyant, non-conformist or un-Filipina. But she would not let the opinion of others affect or deter her. To be happy, she does things her way. For her, life is too short to waste coping with negative energy. Thus, she has retained a youthful appearance and disposition despite her age. She smartly balances her workload with her creative outlets. She is one tough woman who shows grace under pressure.

Preferring to be simply called Dr. Tess or Tess C, last March she tried her luck by applying for the position of Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at the Ateneo de Naga University’s Senior High School. She did this by openly posting on Tess C Channel in Facebook her work experience, qualifications and credentials in colorful graphics, showing her in dance and cosplay attire. She proclaimed boldly that she was doing this “in the spirit of Women’s Month and Women Empowerment.” Believing that she was ready to step forward as a strong and empowered woman, she said, “I believe that I am ready to assume the role.”
Dr. Tess failed to make the cut. But she was “unbothered.” She kept on with her creative pursuits. Through her Science with Dr. Tess channel on YouTube (with nearly 8000 subscribers and over 100 videos), she creates instructional content and tackles diverse science topics such as evolution, photosynthesis, DNA, mathematics, and many others. It serves as an avenue for her to share teaching strategies and classroom activities, with educators and students as her target audience. Her YouTube posts on the use of Likert Scales for research questionnaires, Excel in the tabulation of survey results, and the use of independent and dependent variables in quantitative research have the most number of views.

Adept in gadgetry and the use of technology, she has developed innovative learning aids and tools, such as attendance checkers or the tabulation of test and survey results. On her Facebook page, for instance, she has a science vlog where she demonstrates her strategy to help teachers teach protein synthesis in a fun and interactive way.
Late last year, she joined Isaiah, a theater musical produced by the Missionaries of the Poor to benefit their charity work. She performed as a dancer and actress with a cast composed of Jamaicans and Filipinos in Manila, Cebu and Naga.

While cosplaying is an expensive hobby, she has turned it into a way of teaching, especially story telling during book events. She did the choreography for Teatro Aliento’s recent production of “Mga Agi-agi kan Tulong Salampati.”
She participates in judging cosplay competitions, such as the forthcoming 2023 Tagboan Arts Festival at the Bicol Cosplay Arena this September.
As head of Dance for the Ateneo de Naga Creative Endeavors Council, she founded the Fire and Ice Dance Group. Her recent project was the Dance Webinar Workshop on the basics of Hip hop and Breakdancing. During the Rigmat Arts and Culture Fest, a K-pop dance workshop was staged in collaboration with the Naga City Peoples Council and the Naga City Dance Life with Yai Romero as dance trainer. This was held at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel where 83 youths participated.
She was a former TV host at GNN TV 48 Naga and participated in theatre and indie films as an actor. As a dancer and choreographer, she has competed and won in local and international competitions. She was among the cast of “Mga Aninipot sa Tahaw kan Salog (Fireflies on the River),” an all-original Bikol musical play that retells the many stories of the river, presented on November 25, 2017.
As Tess Consulta in her YouTube channel (separate from her Science with Dr. Tess channel), she has racked up nearly 20,000 subscribers and 3.8 million views. It is her creative outlet for her tireless self-expression, featuring dance, cosplay, beauty, and fashion, and showcasing her many talents.
Kudos to Dr. Tess Consulta for her most unusual career path, making her truly an innovator in the field of education.
