Guillermo “Boyet” Abrenica is a self-taught visual artist. He held the position of Marketing Creative Specialist at Biggs, Inc., the fast-food chain based in Naga City, where his role included photography and graphic design. He received acclamation for his work as Cinematographer in the award-winning film “Hinulid” which was directed by Kristian Kordero and starred Nora Aunor. Two years ago after a decade long career in graphic design, Boyet has resumed his passion for painting. He has gravitated towards digital art. The creative process starts pretty much like traditional art with sketching but continues with imagery scanning and colorizing with digital pens.

In 2015, Boyet contributed three distinctive socio-art paintings to Doods M. Santos’ initiative “Susog Salog”, the community arts and culture-based project supporting the Integrated Naga River Revitalization Project. Writer and critic, Tito Valiente, described these paintings as “riverine art”, where in the artists’ choice of scenery, colors and hues, showed stark contrasts between the man-made interventions above the riverbanks and the dark, lifeless waters and estuaries below. Boyet’s depictions of the stagnant and dying Naga River have now become part of Susog Salog’s message and its urgent call for its revitalization.

Boyet’s graphic art was featured in “Tagbo: The Philippine Part of the First Circumnavigation”, the 2021 historical commemorative exhibit at the Museo Sugbo in Cebu City. His digital illustrations of Lapulapu and the rajahs printed on canvas were the center points of the 7-panel series of the Philippine route of the first circumnavigation.
